An update to our clients on the 2019 filing season

Dear Clients and Friends,

This is a quick update on the status of our tax preparation season in the face of the Coronavirus Pandemic. We are taking immediate action to work remotely and implement social distancing.

Today, the federal government has postponed Tax Day until July 15, 2020. Filing and payment of 2019 income taxes is extended out to this date interest and penalty-free. Further, Governor Pritzker has ordered Illinois residents to stay at home, save for performing essential activities, until April 30, 2020. We are continuing to monitor the news daily for updates.

UPDATE 3/26/20: IL has followed the IRS in extending the filing and payment deadline to July 15. Contrary to the IRS, 1st quarter estimates are still due April 15 for Illinois.

UPDATE 4/10/20: The IRS has changed the 2Q estimated tax deadline to 7/15/2020. This means both the 1Q and 2Q 2020 IRS estimates are due 7/15. Still no change from IL as of today.

A number of relief packages have been rolled out to help businesses affected by this crisis. More information on the two largest loan programs can be found here and here

We will make every effort to continue to process your tax returns in a manner as efficient as possible. Currently, we are technologically prepared to work under the strict restrictions being mandated by our governments. But as restrictions tighten every day, we, like all businesses, will need to sacrifice efficiencies for greater safety.

We ask for a few accommodations:

1. Don’t plan on dropping by the office on Foster. It’s likely no one will be there.

2. Please try to contact us by email only.

3. We will try to push out all returns that are here already within the coming weeks, but since the deadline has been extended we ask that other clients hold off on sending their documents at least until the stay-at-home order is lifted.
